When it comes to preparing and eating your meals, invest sufficient time so that your food is appealing and enjoyable. This will make you less prone to resorting to fast foods or ready meals, which are seldom wholesome options. If you know that you get peckish in between meals, have a healthy stash of snacks available, such as nuts, fruit and vegetables. Be aware too of your eating environment. Try to eat your meals with a high degree of mindfulness. Rather than eating on the fly or grazing in front of the computer, sit down and focus on the taste and texture of your meal. Engaging all your senses will not only increase your enjoyment of the meal but will make you far less likely to eat too rapidly or over-eat.

Don’t skip breakfast, as it serves to kick-start your metabolism and, for this reason, is the most important meal of the day. If you neglect breakfast, you not only deny yourself the necessary energy required to meet your working day but also increase the likelihood that your hunger will cause you to overeat later or fall prey to cravings for unhealthy convenience food. It is better to have lunch as your main meal of the day, but if this is not possible then ensure that your evening meal is not taken too late in the evening so that you do not go to bed on a full stomach.
